Unit Studies: Nocturnal Animals and Leaves

One of our last unit studies to learn about was nocturnal animals that sleep during the day and are active at night including an owl, opossum, raccoon, bat, and firefly.

A couple of weeks ago we reviewed the letters and sounds Luke has been learning. Here are some of his alphabet letter crafts.

We've talked and read lots of book about fall and changing leaves, so everyone made a leaf booklet.

Here are a couple of pages in Luke and Jonathan's booklets. They each picked a leaf and then practiced making observations including size, length, color, and shape. Luke really got into this and was more than happy to help Jonathan know how to make his!

Caleb and I went all around our neighborhood on a leaf hunt last month and collected almost 20 different leaves. Fourteen made the booklet. We used an identification book to label them, but it was still a little tricky. He is eager to double check our guesses with the expert, Uncle Joshua!
