Moving right along through the alphabet to letter "T"
So we started our Pond Unit Study with
Turtles!
I found these free turtle printables from homeschoolshare.com
A couple of our "T" books
Solomon's Temple
We finished studying Solomon, and I was really excited about finding this book about Solomon's temple that included a unique, fully researched ready-to-build model of the temple. The boys couldn't wait to start constructing it, and it was definitely a great visual teaching tool. It was fascinating to get a clearer picture of the magnitude and grandeur of Solomon's temple. I will say this thing was TEDIOUS to build. Caleb and I were determined though, and we bonded over working so hard on something together and seeing the fruit of our labor!
The book explained what Solomon's temple looked like, why it was built, what happened to it, and many other interesting facts.
Telling a Story Art Project
We read Harold and the Purple Crayon and talked about how Harold created a story using his purple crayon. He went many places and saw many things and had to think about those things in his mind before he could draw them and see them.
"Where would you go and what would you do?"
Caleb went to an Auburn football game with Kennon and Luke; they stayed in a hotel, went swimming at the hotel, got lemonade at Toomer's corner, cheered for the tigers in the stadium, drove back home to our house, and got tucked into bed. Luke went to a Grizzly game with Kennon and Caleb; they drove to the game, cheered in their seats at the Forum, ate ice cream and pop corn, drove back home and got tucked into bed. Fun to see how special experiences with their dad are what fill their thoughts and stir their sense of adventure.
Continuing our journey through Lent...
Our Lenten candles. The candle on the cross is the last one we will blow out on Good Friday. Then Easter Sunday we relight all seven candles symbolizing that Jesus, the Light of the World, has overcome the darkness! (Lent post with how to use Lenten Candles in your home.)
We continue to add library books to our Easter basket. We always enjoy Brian Wildsmith.
A couple of the boys' Lenten activities highlighted the significance of the number 40 throughout scripture. Caleb was reading in his Bible about Jesus teaching his disciples for 40 days post resurrection, and he paused making a little "ah" sound before looking up at me with a grin while shaking his hand and saying "forty mom, forty, just like the other 40s!" Such a cool moment to see him making connections in scripture.
