Field Trip Friday to the Horse Stable

My sister was here visiting from Arizona this past weekend, and she invited the boys and I to go with her to Trinity Farms, the stable where she rode and taught lessons before leaving Memphis. Receiving her invitation in advance, I quickly edited my "school calendar" changing our letter of the week to be H during her visit. Because "H" is for horse of course!

We checked out a bunch of horse books from the library to get excited about our upcoming field trip.

Aunt MoMo taught the boys about the different grooming tools. They learned how to care for the horse's coat, mane, and hooves and basic body parts.

After learning how to "tack up" with saddle pad, saddle, girth, and bridle, it was time to ride!

Luke and Bon Bon

Each boy got a 10 minute lesson from one of the stable's instructors. They learned to steer, got to trot, and guided the pony over some poles on the ground. I could tell they were so proud to be riding around all by themselves!

Even David got a turn on Bon Bon

I'm grateful when I get the opportunity to expose the kids to different people, places, and animals and we learn from hands-on experiences! Thanks Aunt MoMo!!!
P.S. Luke says he's asking for a pony this Christmas!
