Christmas Traditions

I love it when I can just be home and enjoy the season with my kids! We've made breads and cookies, but their favorite thing to make is gingerbread men! Lisa Whelchel's book The Adventure of Christmas, which I've mentioned previously, has really helped me over the years be more intentional in our traditions, to keep pointing the kids to the real reason for the season, Jesus! Whenever we're baking during Christmas we're reminded of Bethlehem where Jesus was born. The word Bethlehem literally means "house of bread." When we smell that wonderful aroma of baking cookies, breads, pies, etc, it is to remind us of the one who is the "Bread of Life" (John 6:51) born in the "house of bread!!" How cool is that! He gave "Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma" (Eph 5:2)

Gingerbread Men

Can you tell Luke is a fan of lots of icing on his cookies?!

We draw names with our cousins for Christmas gift exchanging, and the boys decorated their own wrapping paper with stickers, stamps, and markers. "The greatest gift of all was wrapped in human flesh so that He might be able to wrap all humanity in his outstretched arms of love." (The Adventure of Christmas, Lisa Whelchel)

Last year we took the boys to the Collierville town square to see all the Christmas lights and had so much fun we decided to go again this year. They love to RUN RUN RUN around all the trees. It never ceases to amaze me how much energy they have!!
