In one week we'll begin the journey of Advent, so I wanted to share a quick post on a few of our family traditions that have helped take us down a fun, meaningful, and memorable path toward the celebration of our Savior's birth. I love hearing about different family traditions, and if you spend five minutes on Pinterest, you'll find a plethora of various activities and ideas on how families have taken similar traditions and fit them uniquely in their families. Usually one of two feelings stirs in my stomach as I'm reading about all the other cool things we could be doing. I either feel inspired or overwhelmed. If I feel overwhelmed, I ask the Lord to either stir contentment in my heart and focus on the joy of being full of Him right where we are or show me if I need to clean some junk food off my plate to make room for what will feed our souls.
With small children in the home, we've kept our Advent journey pretty simple hinging it on two primary resources - The Advent Book and An Advent Wreath. I posted in detail last year about how we use our book and make our own wreath, and you can find pictures illustrating the process.
On the first Sunday of Advent I pull out our Advent Box which is filled with lots of favorite picture books, activity books, puzzles, children's nativities, music, and various other items that I've collected over the years or bought at post Christmas sales. Combining old favorites that haven't been seen in a year with a few new surprises builds up the anticipation of this tradition!

Handel: Messiah
I think I'm going to add this 25 Days to Christmas with Handel's Messiah to our Morning Time Routine.
