Advent Day 11: The Dawning of Indestructible Joy

by John Piper

John Piper is a gifted wordsmith, and his writings never fail to stir my affections for Christ and the depths of the beauty of the gospel. These daily Advent devotions are short yet profound. When browsing through various Advent devotionals, this one jumped out as my eyes were drawn to the word JOY. If there is one word with which I want my children to describe our home during the Christmas season... it's joy.

And I know that atmosphere begins with me, for as mothers, we are culture creators in our homes. Yet I also know my own propensity toward holiday stress and busyness which steal the joy, the peace, the rest.

I'm praying God would use the gospel truths in this little book to help keep my heart in constant meditation on the fullness, the realness of Christ so that the good news of great JOY overflows into all of our home's Advent traditions and Christmas celebrations this season.
