In this season of being a homeschool mom, Morning time is my effort to create a peg in our day that keeps what we value most first. I began to notice early on that as the day progresses, more and more activities - school lessons, sports, music, social gatherings - arise to demand our time, and before I know it the day gets away from me. So after breakfast and Bible, then chores, we regather to start our "school day" with morning time.
Furnishing our minds with truth, goodness, and beauty.
Hymn:
Catechism:
We reviewed our catechism questions that fit right in with today's Advent Bible ornament and reading on the fall in the garden.
Advent coloring pictures from Ann Voskamp
Scripture Memory:
Luke 2:8-15 (The story of Christ's birth)
Poetry:
Luke is memorizing Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost with his Veritas homeschool class to perform at the school's Sounds of the Season. Caleb memorized this one in Kindergarten as well, so we are all reciting it together. Susan Jeffers has beautifully illustrated the poem.
Folk Song:
Go Tell It On The Mountain
Such a fun song! It's in Caleb's Christmas piano book, so he wanted to work on playing it for us.
Read Aloud Picture Book:
The First Christmas Tree by Helen Haidle
I love this author, and I mentioned in yesterday's post that we are getting our Christmas tree tomorrow, so we've been reading picture books this week on the Christmas tree tradition.
"When you helped others, you did what God's Son has come to do. Now go. Continue to serve Him in love." - The First Christmas Tree
