"When are we going to make the gingerbread men?!"
We've made gingerbread men every Christmas for the past three years, and this is one of those traditions that created itself. Honestly, baking tends to stress me out, so it helps for me to pick one kitchen intensive endeavor that the boys love, and give it my best! I've found it gets easier and more fun each year!
One of the boys' favorite Christmas season books is The Gingerbread Baby by the very talented Jan Brett, and I think this book is where their imaginations were first excited toward making their own gingerbread men.

These smell incredible and seven minutes in my oven gives them just the right amount of softness. Letting the boys help makes a much bigger mess than if I made them myself, but I've realized that for them being part of the process is what makes their special memory.
